Mobile Powered Live Panel Discussions Create Rich Classroom Learning Environment

Trumpia, a mobile messaging platform, worked with Jon Beaupré, a TV Film and Media Studies professor at California State University, Los Angeles, who needed a better way to engage a diverse, urban student body. Faced with large, intimidating classes and low participation from quieter students, Beaupré sought a tool that would encourage wider, more active involvement without relying on traditional lecturing.

Beaupré used Trumpia’s Text-to-Screen feature during live panel discussions: students texted the keyword "TVFILM" plus questions that were projected for the panel to answer, and he exported submissions to track and reward participation. The method generated spirited discussion, noticeably increased student engagement—especially among introverted students—and turned classroom texting from a distraction into a constructive learning tool.
