Iowa State University Extension and Outreach's Science of Parenting program, a blog providing research and resources for parents, faced a challenge in keeping its readers engaged. Subscribers did not know when new articles were posted, which occurred approximately once a week at irregular times, making it difficult for them to check back regularly for updates. The program sought an effective way to alert its audience to new content.

The vendor Trum.pia implemented an SMS solution by setting up a mobile keyword, "SCIPARENT", which readers could text to subscribe to a messaging program. This allowed the university to send mass text alerts notifying subscribers whenever a new blog article was published. As a result, Trum.pia helped the Science of Parenting program successfully increase its blog traffic through this immediate and direct communication channel.
