Employment initiative uses Trumpia to help reach underserved young people

Launched in August 2015, the 100,000 Opportunities Initiative is the largest employer-led coalition focused on hiring youth 16–24 who are not in school. The Chicago chapter tasked a team of interns with finding a way to reach underserved young people about job opportunities; a survey found 90% of them identified cell phones as their primary contact method and 90% of those opted into texting.

The interns centered the campaign on texting using Trumpia, printing the mobile keyword "Jobs4u" on business cards and promoting it on posters and electronic billboards across the city. In their first summer they secured over 2,000 signups, used texts to share hiring-fair and job information, and the model has since been adopted in Seattle, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Phoenix.
