TrueCommerce VMI Helps Optimize Hub-and-Spoke Distribution for Next-Day Delivery

Conn’s HomePlus, a 150‑store furniture, electronics and appliance retailer known for its “buy it today, get it tomorrow” promise, faced inefficient, manual store replenishment on a legacy AS/400 min/max system that hindered truck utilization and next‑day delivery. Conn’s partnered with TrueCommerce to explore and implement a Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) approach that could be adapted to its hub‑and‑spoke distribution model and reduce manual forecasting and allocation work.

TrueCommerce implemented and extended its VMI solution across Conn’s two RDCs, 11 Hub‑Spoke DCs and stores, automating replenishment forecasting, truck rounding/building and visibility into shortages. The deployment cut manual effort and IT change requests, decreased product returns and transfer moves, and improved truck utilization — transfer truck counts fell within three weeks, Conn’s estimates 75–80% of warehouse ROI came from truck‑building automation, and routine allocation tasks dropped from hours to minutes.
