Case Study: Welsco reduces distracted driving accidents with TRUCE Software

Making personal phone usage safer for a large welding supply company

Welsco, a longtime welding supply and industrial gas company with a fleet of more than 100 vehicles, was struggling with rising accident claims that appeared to be linked to employees’ growing smartphone use on the job. To reduce distracted driving, lower claim costs, and maintain employee buy-in, Welsco turned to TRUCE Software and its TRUCE Mobile App.

TRUCE Software implemented TRUCE alongside in-vehicle cameras to block mobile device distractions and support policy enforcement and driver coaching. The result was a major safety and financial improvement: Welsco’s annual accident rate fell from double digits to just 3 accidents in 2018, and average claims expense dropped from more than $100,000 to about $11,000, representing more than 70% fewer accidents and more than 90% lower claims costs.
