United States Secret Service recovers $5 million with TRM Labs

The United States Secret Service faced the challenge of investigating a sophisticated "pig butchering" scam where victims lost over $5.5 million. The scam involved fraudsters building romantic relationships with victims before convincing them to invest in a fake cryptocurrency platform. To trace and recover the stolen funds, the USSS utilized TRM Labs and its TRM Forensics product.

TRM Labs provided the solution by enabling investigators to track the movement of the stolen cryptocurrency across the blockchain. A critical feature was an instant alert that notified the Secret Service when the funds moved from an unhosted wallet to a compliant exchange. This allowed the USSS, using TRM Labs' tools, to quickly secure a seizure warrant and recover approximately $5 million of the stolen funds for the victims.
