Kirklees Council - Customer Case Study

Kirklees Council, which manages services for Huddersfield and surrounding towns with an 18,000-strong workforce (about 8,000 PC users), needed a scalable, easy-to-update way to deliver induction and role-specific training across a geographically dispersed staff. Learning and Development faced the challenge of moving from classroom-heavy courses—where sessions were often spent simply reading policy—to engaging, cost-effective blended learning that could be updated as personnel and policies changed.

The team adopted Lectora (with Adobe Captivate) to build multimedia-rich courses—videos, Flash, images and quizzes—and now has around 50 online learning packages with more in development. The shift cut classroom time for common training like email tuition, produced clear financial savings, won a 2007 eLearning Award, delivered consistently positive learner feedback, and enabled tighter assessment controls so staff only progress after meeting standards.
