The Software Solution that Increased Trips per Hour

Ohio State University’s Transportation and Parking Services runs an on‑demand paratransit service for students, faculty and staff using nine accessible vehicles and handling about 200 trips a day. They were constrained by an outdated database that stored rider data but couldn’t automate scheduling or routing, leaving dispatchers working inefficiently on the radio and unable to increase vehicle capacity within budget.

OSU implemented TripSpark’s browser‑based NovusDR scheduling and DriverMate in‑vehicle tablets (GPS/AVL), a hosted solution requiring little training or on‑site IT. The software enabled real‑time schedule updates and trip consolidation, increasing trips per hour to the equivalent of adding a van, serving more riders at lower cost, and paving the way for notifications and an online passenger portal to cut no‑shows and improve on‑time performance.
