Texas A&M University - Customer Case Study

Texas A&M University Transportation Services operates one of North America’s largest campus transit systems, serving a 5,000‑acre campus with 97 buses on 18 routes and about 50,000 passenger trips per day during sessions. With enrollment having more than doubled over 20 years and continuing to grow roughly 6% annually, the team needed better visibility of vehicle locations, a way to share real‑time information with riders, rapid response for game‑day surges (about 25,000 transit users), and flexible rostering for short student shifts—without significantly expanding the fleet.

By implementing TripSpark’s CAD/AVL, scheduling software, MDTs and automatic passenger counters, Texas A&M provided live bus locations to riders, monitored passenger loads to make real‑time routing and dispatch adjustments, and used drag‑and‑drop rostering for split shifts. The result was improved on‑time performance and route efficiency, fewer “where’s my bus?” calls to dispatch, maximized vehicle capacity (trips grew from ~4.5M to nearly 8M), and the ability to handle large game‑day crowds without overhauling the fleet.
