A TripSpark Case Study
Rogue Valley Transit District (RVTD), an award‑winning public agency in Medford, Oregon operating 26 buses on 8 routes across seven communities, faced a budget shortfall that threatened service reductions. After a failed 2014 levy they had to cut service carefully, and when a 2016 levy later passed they wanted to use additional funds efficiently rather than simply expanding service across the board.
Using stop‑level ridership and route‑schedule adherence data from their fixed‑route software, RVTD removed low‑use stops (including an airport stop that shortened a route from 45 to 30 minutes) and made small route pattern and stop‑consolidation changes. Those targeted, data‑driven adjustments preserved critical service, improved on‑time performance and transfer reliability, and let the agency direct new funding to where riders benefit most.
