How Paratransit and Fixed Route Come Together

Lethbridge Transit, serving a mix of college students and an aging population in Lethbridge, Alberta, needed a way to track both fixed-route and paratransit vehicles, reduce late cancellations and no-shows, improve boarding and customer information, and keep systems easy for dispatch and drivers to use despite funding constraints.

They deployed TripSpark’s integrated ITS—in-vehicle MDTs, a web-based MyRide passenger info system and downtown signs, paratransit software with online booking and automated notifications—which freed drivers from routine queries, enabled real-time tracking and same-day bookings, and improved coordination. The changes drove measurable gains: paratransit ridership +5.17%, public transit ridership +2.5%, an estimated 400% increase in website traffic, fewer complaints, shorter waits and reduced late cancellations.
