A TripSpark Case Study
The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) provides multimodal public transportation across 15 towns and 400 square miles, including Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. Operating fixed-route buses, paratransit, Dial-A-Ride/SmartDART and extensive NEMT services, CCRTA delivered over 1.2 million trips in 2019 (including 400,000 medical trips). Seasonal demand that more than triples the population, plus issues with scheduling, dispatching, billing and on-time performance, created operational strain and challenges serving riders reliably across land, air and sea connections.
CCRTA partnered with TripSpark to deploy and customize NEMT, demand-response/paratransit and fixed-route software (FLEX, PASS, MT) plus in-vehicle and traveler information tech, enabling real-time trip tracking, better scheduling/dispatch, and integrated billing and reporting. The technology improved on-time performance and ridership visibility, helped CCRTA manage high summer volumes and island operations more cost-effectively, supported 400k+ medical trips annually, and contributed to strong customer satisfaction and lower per-trip costs.
