A Trintech Case Study
Alabama Power, a Southern Company utility serving 1.4 million customers across most of Alabama, faced lengthy, error-prone month-end reconciliations and weak visibility into transactions that hindered Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Despite six people dedicated to month-end accounting, reconciliations and reporting lagged 3–6 months, audits were difficult, and issues like bad checks, duplicate refunds and internal inefficiencies consumed significant research time.
Alabama Power implemented Trintech’s ReconNET and DataFlow Transaction Network to automate bank data collection, transaction reconciliation, exception management and audit reporting. As a result, bank reconciliations now take 4–7 days (down from 3–6 months), bank errors are caught immediately, 88 fraudulent checks totaling more than $245,000 were prevented in year one, and the company gained documented SOX compliance and seamless integration with other financial systems, enabling expansion of automation across payroll, AP, credit cards and general ledger reconciliations.
