HL7 Integration for HCA - Customer Case Study

HCA, the Hospital Corporation of America, faced a challenge in ensuring billing accuracy as its Computer Assisted Coding Department needed to correctly match diagnostic classifications with standardized codes for reimbursement. This complex process involved translating diverse data formats, including doctors' notes and discharge reports, into the required ICD-10 standard. To address this, HCA turned to Trinisys and its Combine solution.

Trinisys implemented its Combine platform to bridge a critical HL7 integration gap. The solution extracted data from printed discharge notes, generated HL7 messages from that data, and then delivered it to Optum's natural language processing software for ICD-10 coding. This automated data flow was supported by a daily reconciliation report, which allowed HCA administrative staff to efficiently monitor the process and quickly identify any exceptions, ensuring smooth and accurate operations.
