Penn State Increases Access to Data, Enhances Research Efforts by Joining TriNetX Research Network

Penn State College of Medicine and Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center needed access to large, relevant patient data sets to support advanced informatics research and expand collaboration across the university and with the broader research community. Although the institution had strong research expertise, researchers were often blocked by limited internal data and long waits for external data access. Penn State was already using TriNetX Live for access to its own data and sought a broader solution from TriNetX.

Penn State joined the TriNetX Research Network, gaining access to more than 68 million deidentified patient records from 49 healthcare organizations. With TriNetX, researchers downloaded nearly 30 data sets in the first six months, published four papers, and applied for three informatics grants that would have been difficult or impossible otherwise. TriNetX also helped Penn State improve research efficiency and expand its ability to produce outcomes-based and epidemiological studies.
