A Trimble Case Study
When storm Alfrida struck Åland Island, fierce winds knocked down trees across power lines and left thousands without electricity—some areas remained without power for months. Ålands Elandelslag faced a surge of roughly 6,000 fault reports and the urgent need to coordinate crews from Sweden and Finland to prioritize repairs and keep the public informed.
Using Trimble’s outage management solution, the utility collected and displayed real-time outage data on an automatically updating map, enabling rapid crew dispatch to the hardest-hit areas and giving customers live status updates on the Ålands Elandelslag website. The system absorbed heavy traffic (about 120,000 clicks on day one), supported temporary repairs that restored supply, and streamlined cleanup and recovery efforts across the island.
