A Trimble Case Study
Electric Power Distribution Company of Belgrade (EDB), which serves Belgrade’s 1.5+ million residents, faced an outdated, fragmented mapping system for its medium-voltage network—mixing paper surveys, incomplete CAD files and aerial photos—which hindered efficient maintenance and planning across its 6,500 km underground and 9,500 km overhead networks. EDB needed a single, enterprise GIS and web-accessible database to improve data accuracy and operational decision-making.
EDB deployed 20 Trimble GeoXT handhelds with TerraSync and GPS Pathfinder Office, defined a consistent data dictionary, and post-processed positions using the AGROS VRS network. In about 1,300 field hours teams mapped 31,000 poles (over 20,000 in one year), exported corrected data into AED‑SICAD ArcFM via FME, and published results to a web GIS—delivering submeter accuracy, faster repairs, fewer field visits, lower operating costs and a strong ROI, with plans to extend mapping to the low-voltage network.
