A Trimble Case Study
The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is a major academic health center — the nation’s first public medical school and hospital under unified leadership, with hospitals on four campuses and a 450-bed flagship in Galveston. Managing about 100 projects and roughly 2,200 work requests annually as part of a $650 million, four-year capital program, UTMB struggled with decentralized document storage (spreadsheets and individual drives), fragmented contractor and architect systems, slow approvals, inconsistent reporting, and inefficient processes.
In 2016 UTMB implemented e-Builder Enterprise, integrated it with PeopleSoft, established a work‑breakdown structure, and invited contractors and architects into the platform to centralize documents and increase accountability. The result: invoicing now processes in as little as a few weeks (maximum three), change orders can be approved within a day, reporting is trusted by leadership, and more projects are completing under budget and ahead of schedule.
