Trimble X7 3D Laser Scanner Helps Dick Anderson Construction Ensure Accuracy and Avoid Rework

Dick Anderson Construction (DAC) is a Montana- and Wyoming-based general contractor with a 40-year track record and a newly formed Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) group focused on digital workflows. The firm struggled with costly discoveries made after concrete pours—misaligned plumbing, uneven slabs and other as-built issues that required rework—so they needed a simple, accurate way to capture field conditions before slabs were finished.

DAC adopted the Trimble X7 3D laser scanner with FieldLink to scan post-tension decks and underground plumbing and overlay scans with models. The technology revealed a high slab location in a hospital project and misplaced toilet plumbing in an apartment project—issues corrected before pours—saving time and money, improving QA/QC, enabling better data sharing across offices, and driving company-wide adoption (five more X7 units purchased).
