A Trimble Case Study
SAK Ingenieurgesellschaft GmbH was hired to survey and 16.8‑km section of Bavaria’s Alzkanal ahead of a tightly scheduled refurbishment. The canal normally carried deep, fast‑flowing water, limiting preplanning and access, while an inflexible eight‑week shutdown demanded high‑precision (2 cm point density) 3D data extending 100 m from each bank under a very tight timeline.
SAK used Trimble R10 GNSS, S8 total station, UX5‑HP UAS, TX8 laser scanner and Trimble software to establish control, execute eight UAS missions (≈5,100 images), and rapidly process orthophotos and scans—often delivering results within hours. The team completed comprehensive surveys in two days, supported daily construction layout and volume calculations, and delivered point clouds, DTMs, cross sections and georeferenced scan data on schedule, enabling accurate repairs and earning strong client and contractor praise.
