Case Study: Le FabShop achieves rapid, precise building renovation with Trimble TX8 3D scanning

A Trimble Case Study

Preview of the leFabShop Case Study

Trimble technologies optimize building renovation

Le FabShop, a French digital workshop launching the first Le FabClub makerspace in Paris, needed to redevelop a long-unused 700+ m² commercial property with outdated electrical, plumbing and accessibility issues—and there were no up-to-date drawings. Manual measurement would have been slow, unreliable and would have limited space-optimization and regulatory planning.

Using the Trimble TX8 3D laser scanner with Trimble RealWorks and SketchUp, the team captured 35 highly accurate scans (30 indoor, 5 exterior) in under two hours—delivering millimeter-level as-built data for same-day processing. The resulting point clouds and validated SketchUp models enabled MARO Architectes and Le FabShop to optimize the design, ensure regulatory compliance, and produce a renovation plan they could implement with confidence.
