Trimble Real-time 3D Surface Models Help Manson Construction Co. Accelerate New Breakwater Build at Mile Point

Manson Construction Co., a heavy civil marine contractor, faced a complex U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project at Mile Point in Jacksonville, Florida, where it needed to reconfigure the channel and build a 4,000-foot breakwater wall in shallow, tidal conditions. To meet tight tolerances and manage difficult underwater excavation and placement work, Manson turned to Trimble and its marine construction technology, including Trimble Marine Construction (TMC) Software.

Trimble implemented the Trimble GCS900 Grade Control System, Trimble GNSS and inertial navigation, and Teledyne BlueView sonar to create real-time, motion-compensated 3D models of the work area from a moving barge and excavator. The solution gave operators live cut/fill and as-built visibility, eliminated guesswork and rework, and helped Manson quickly reach required tolerances while improving productivity in rough conditions.
