Trimble Handhelds Help Latvian Rural Support Service Manage EU Agricultural Program

The Latvian Rural Support Service (RSS), based in Riga, administers the EU Single Area Payment Scheme and must regularly verify parcel boundaries and cultivated area across a country with extensive forest cover. Inspectors faced the challenge of collecting accurate, on‑the‑spot measurements in difficult GNSS conditions while using equipment that is durable and easy to operate in the field.

RSS equipped field teams with 35 Trimble GeoExplorer 6000 series GeoXT handhelds (with Floodlight satellite shadow reduction, built‑in camera and preloaded shapefiles) and used Trimble GPS Pathfinder postprocessing plus LAPTOS differential corrections. The result: submeter accuracy even under canopy, faster data capture, streamlined postprocessing and GIS updates, and measurable time and cost savings for subsidy inspections.
