A Trimble Case Study
Columbia County, Georgia’s GIS department needed to inventory 220 miles of newly buried fiber optic cable and five wireless relay towers across heavily wooded terrain, where dense canopy and limited satellite visibility made GNSS data collection slow and intermittent.
By deploying Trimble GeoXH 6000 handhelds with Floodlight technology, a Trimble NetR9 reference station, and Trimble Positions software for office processing, the county achieved nearly continuous field collection and streamlined data transfer to Esri GIS. The solution delivered a four-fold productivity gain (about 1 mile per 15 minutes versus ~1 hour previously), cut office editing to about 15 minutes per field hour, and produced a reliable, up-to-date asset inventory with strong ROI.
