Trimble Connected Site Delivers Better Jobsite Productivity and Planning

The MacKays to Peka Peka (M2PP) Alliance — a joint team of the NZ Transport Agency, Beca and Fletcher Construction — is delivering an 18 km, NZD 630 million expressway through challenging coastal and wetland terrain. The project requires moving about 3.5 million m3 of material (including more than 800,000 m3 of peat), precise survey control for 18 bridges and associated paths, and volume-based subcontractor payments, all while maintaining safety and cultural/environmental protections. Managing these complex earthworks, accurate billing and real-time coordination across office and field was a major operational challenge.

The Alliance adopted the Trimble Connected Site portfolio (Business Center - HCE, Connected Community, VisionLink, GCS900 machine control and GNSS base stations) to create a single, synchronized office‑to‑field workflow. The integrated solution enabled 3D machine control and rapid mass‑haul analysis, cut rework, sped up planning (haul routes recalculated in minutes vs. weeks), simplified monthly volume-based billing and removed the need for risky manual surveys in peat. The result: improved productivity and safety, clearer subcontractor payments, significant stake‑management cost savings, and the project progressing on schedule.
