A Trimble Case Study
Routescene, a Scotland- and Colorado‑based developer of drone 3D‑mapping systems, needed to deliver survey‑grade accuracy for challenging, dynamic UAV LiDAR surveys where position and orientation change by the millisecond. The company required a solution that was lightweight, scalable in accuracy, cost‑effective and compatible with a wide range of base‑station receivers, while overcoming heading and integration challenges inherent to single‑antenna setups.
Routescene built an integrated system combining a dual‑antenna GNSS/INS LidarPod (using a Trimble BD992‑based navigation solution and Advanced Navigation sensors) with a Routescene Ground Station that incorporates a Trimble BD940 and Zephyr antenna to provide RTK (or PPK) corrections, real‑time QA monitoring and independent base‑station capability. The result is a flexible, reliable and cost‑effective UAV LiDAR package that achieves high positional and angular accuracy for surveys in remote, steep or vegetation‑dense environments.
