A Trimble Case Study
The Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) faced a complex challenge while planning a 16-mile toll road in Southern California. After two years of using conventional CAD and GIS systems, TCA and its consultants were unable to develop a route that satisfied the multiple stakeholders and met all environmental and engineering requirements for the project.
Trimble implemented its Alignment Planning system, a unique methodology that allowed the team to simultaneously analyze environmental, community, engineering, and cost issues. For TCA, Trimble's solution saved an estimated 6-12 months in planning time and cut construction costs by over $80 million. The results also included dramatically reduced environmental impacts, such as cutting wetland disruption from 107 to 49 acres and reducing residential displacement from 32 homes to zero.
