A Trimble Case Study
China RailWay Fifth Survey and Design Institute Group Co.Ltd. faced the challenge of verifying an existing 30-kilometer section of the Shaoshan-Ganzhou railway project and finding better alternatives for a mixed passenger and freight line. Using Trimble’s Quantm Alignment Planning system, the team needed to evaluate route options that met the project’s speed, grade, and environmental requirements while improving the original pre-feasibility design.
Trimble implemented Quantm to rapidly analyze the alignment and generate viable alternatives. Within two weeks, Trimble helped the customer confirm the original corridor and identify a better route just south of it, cutting tunnel length by 860 meters, bridge length by 2,770 meters, and total route length by 250 meters. The optimized alignment also reduced the bridge/tunnel ratio from 48.5% to 36.5% while maintaining the same geometric standard and meeting environmental requirements.
