The Weitz Company Integrates Prolog® Software with e-PCS to Achieve Electronic Document Management and Archiving throughout the Project Lifecycle

The Weitz Company, a $1.5B general contractor founded in 1855 and a leader in senior living and commercial construction, had long used Meridian’s Prolog and JD Edwards to manage project information. Despite those systems, field teams still struggled with paper-based workflows and slow document routing, creating delays, risk and a lack of industry-specific document management across distributed job sites.

Weitz partnered with Data Builder to deploy ECC and then e-PCS, a hosted, secure document-capture and archiving system integrated with Prolog and the company e-mail server; nightly pulls, OCR indexing and automated capture created a centralized, searchable project repository. The result: elimination of off-site paper archives, dramatic time and cost savings (document retrieval now takes minutes), faster bid and closeout processes, improved risk mitigation, and several hundred jobs — representing billions in construction value — stored electronically.
