A Trimble Case Study
The Port of New Orleans, one of North America’s busiest ports, needed to build its first enterprise GIS after acquiring additional rail assets and discovering that infrastructure records were fragmented across paper plans, CAD files and institutional memory. With no prior enterprise GIS or dedicated staff, the port faced gaps in completeness, currency and accuracy that hindered operations, security and disaster response.
Port NOLA ran a pilot with consultants using Trimble R2 GNSS rovers, Trimble T10 tablets and Esri Collector to digitize legacy records, perform high‑precision field asset mapping, and serve data through a custom web portal. The effort validated and updated critical assets, proved field mapping is a cost‑effective way to ensure accurate datasets, improved situational awareness across the enterprise, and led to a new RFP for the next mapping phase.
