Case Study: City of Amsterdam achieves cost-effective, efficient street-level imagery and open access with Trimble MX7

A Trimble Case Study

Preview of the City of Amsterdam Case Study

The city of Amsterdam uses mobile mapping to improve efficiency and simplify access to spatial data

The city of Amsterdam moved from outsourced contractors to an in-house mobile mapping program to gain control over street-level imagery, reduce recurring costs, and avoid restrictive licensing and limited capture windows. Outsourcing had been expensive, inflexible (poor timing, weather-dependent captures), and didn’t support frequent updates or water-based imaging needed for the canal city.

Amsterdam deployed the Trimble MX7 Mobile Mapping System with Trimble POSpac and Trimble Business Center to capture, georeference and process panoramic imagery, automatically blur faces, and publish data via an open web portal. The system—used on cars and boats and operated by a small hired team—allows more frequent updates (city-wide capture twice a year and near-daily use), lowers taxpayer costs, improves operational efficiency for city departments and emergency services, and is shared with neighboring districts.
