A Trimble Case Study
The Beck Group, a century‑old integrated design‑build firm, was tapped by Simon Property Group to transform Atlanta’s Phipps Plaza into a landmark mixed‑use destination featuring a 150‑room Nobu Hotel, a 13‑story office tower, an outdoor event venue and a large athletic facility. The team had to demolish an existing department store and parking deck and build within the same footprint while keeping the mall open, navigating a tight schedule, congested below‑grade utilities and pile caps, and the need for extremely precise connections to the existing structure.
Beck adopted a constructible, data‑rich workflow centered on Trimble Connect, using Trimble Field Link, two RTS773 robotic total stations, Kenai tablets and Trimble Connect for HoloLens to extend BIM to the field, capture existing conditions, and coordinate trades in real time. The integrated approach improved accuracy for 3‑inch pile tolerances, sped RFI resolution from two weeks to three days, reduced rework, enabled fast, accurate layout and clash visualization, and — with onsite training from BuildingPoint Southeast — delivered seamless collaboration and higher productivity across the project.
