The Beaver Excavating Company Leverages Trimble Earthworks for 20% Faster and More Accurate Excavation of Ohio’s Portsmouth Bypass

Beaver Excavating is a family-owned earthworks and heavy-civil contractor founded in 1953 that employs around 600 people and operates across Ohio and neighboring states. Facing large-scale work such as the 16-mile Portsmouth Bypass, the company agreed to beta-test Trimble’s next‑generation Earthworks grade control platform to improve excavation accuracy, speed up pipework and grading, and reduce time spent checking and rechecking grade.

The Trimble Earthworks solution — including an “Autos” mode that lets operators control the stick while the system controls boom and bucket — delivered more consistent, highly accurate grading and eliminated much of the continuous grade checking workflow. Beaver reported about 20% faster digging and pipework, expects ROI in roughly one year, has five machines currently equipped and plans to expand use across future projects.
