A Trimble Case Study
TGM Group, a Ballarat-based engineering, surveying and planning consultancy, was contracted by Downer EDI to provide full survey support for the 2,600‑hectare Mt. Mercer Wind Farm—a 64‑turbine project forecast to power almost 100,000 homes. The challenge was delivering highly precise, mobile survey control across a vast site for foundation layouts, hardstand orientations, embed rings and countless bolt sets, all to tight tolerances while coordinating with large civil and crane crews.
Using an integrated Trimble workflow (SPS880, R8 GNSS, TSC3 controller and S6/S8 total stations), TGM delivered real‑time setouts, quality assurance and millimeter‑level monitoring (embed tolerances 5 mm horizontal / 2 mm vertical) with a single surveyor. The team completed detailed stakeouts, monitored concrete pours, positioned electrical substation bolts and verified final as‑builts—enabling accurate foundations, safe crane operations and successful construction of the wind farm.
