Texas Quarry Lifts Productivity with Loader Scales

Central Texas Stone and Aggregate, a family-owned quarry in Central Texas led by General Manager Cole Bland, set out to double production from about 600,000 tons and modernize long-standing, single-shift operations. Increased sales forced faster, more accurate loading, but visual scoop counts left trucks routinely over- or under-loaded, creating long lines, costly returns and lost productivity.

The company added a Doosan DL550-5 with a larger bucket and installed the Trimble LOADRITE L3180 SmartScale onboard weighing system, giving operators real-time weight readouts, eTicketing and production metrics. The result: misloads fell from 8 in 100 to less than 1 in 100, production rose to 1.3 million tons at 350 t/h, trucks load faster with fewer returns, customer satisfaction improved, and the system even helped uncover equipment issues like a hydraulic leak.
