Sustainability Benefits with Huge ROI

HP Hood is one of the U.S.’s largest branded dairy processors, operating 17 plants and a private distribution fleet of more than 350 power units. Facing rising fuel costs, tighter hours-of-service (HOS) rules and growing regulatory and customer pressure to improve sustainability, Hood set out to demonstrate industry leadership by cutting fuel use and paper consumption while staying compliant with HOS/CSA requirements.

Hood implemented PeopleNet’s Fleet Manager suite — Vehicle Management, eDriver Logs, Automated Workflow, Reporting, Automated Fuel Tax and geofencing/messaging — integrated with back‑office and routing systems. The result: fuel efficiency gains up to 25–26% (over‑the‑road drivers achieving ~7 MPG; six‑wheel trucks ~7.3–7.4 MPG), automated HOS compliance and early identification of high‑risk drivers, a drop in fuel tax discrepancies from 4.5% to 0.004%, $150/month in mailing savings, paper use cut from 14 bankers’ boxes/month to one per quarter (fleet paper reduced ~70–75%), 25% improved customer service, and major time savings for drivers and payroll staff.
