Central States Trucking’s intermodal division—about 110 drivers handling roughly 2,500 moves per week with four dispatchers—faced inefficiencies from long phone hold times, extensive dispatcher data entry, and occasional miscommunication of complex move details that caused delays at rail yards and customer sites.
The company implemented Trimble GeoManager Fleet Management with Profit Tools software to enable direct, GPS-enabled communication and driver-entered move data. The solution cut driver hold times from 10–15 to 0–3 minutes, saved drivers 30–60 minutes per day, increased dispatcher productivity by about an hour daily, reduced errors and delays, and improved safety and customer service.
