A Trimble Case Study
The University of Beira Interior, working with partners on a Mount Kilimanjaro survey, needed a way to overcome major geoid-model uncertainties and obtain a far more accurate measurement of the mountain’s true height. The team turned to Trimble GNSS technology, including Trimble NetR5 reference receivers and Trimble R8 GNSS receivers, to capture precise data in extremely difficult summit conditions.
Trimble helped the team combine GNSS and gravity observations to build a new local geoid model and collect measurements on and around Kilimanjaro. The expedition gathered GNSS data at 205 points in total, including a record first GNSS track from the summit, enabling the researchers to produce the most accurate measurements yet and support future scientific studies and validation work.
