Specialty Contractor’s Technology Shift Redefines the ‘Impossible’ on Mixed-Use Project

Ken Neyer Plumbing, a leading Ohio specialty contractor, was responsible for plumbing systems on Liberty Center, a 1.2-million-sq-ft mixed‑use development. Two buildings had large post‑tensioned slabs (no core drilling or slab cutting allowed), requiring the firm to accurately locate more than 400–500 sleeves and hangers on aggressive pour schedules and stake points to within 1/16 inch—tasks impractical with tape measures or relying on external surveyors.

The firm implemented Trimble Field Link for MEP with a Trimble Robotic Total Station and tablet, trained crews, and refined mounting and workflow techniques to stake directly from the 3D model. The solution delivered the needed precision, kept the project on schedule without hiring surveyors, streamlined prefab and data transfer (DWG export and in‑field tolerance flags), and became an integral, efficiency‑boosting part of their workflow for current and future jobs.
