Skanska - Customer Case Study

The A14 Integrated Delivery Team—a joint venture of Costain, Skanska, Balfour Beatty and Atkins Jacobs—led the £1.5 billion upgrade of 34 km of highway between Cambridge and Huntingdon. Project leaders needed an easy way to explain complex designs and construction impacts to non-technical stakeholders and to coordinate site logistics across 70 structures, a 750 m viaduct and a 19 km bypass while avoiding underground utilities.

Skanska’s survey team deployed Trimble SiteVision, an Android-based augmented reality tool that combines precise GNSS positioning with 3D CAD/BIM/GIS models to show planned roadways, structures and buried assets on-site in real time. The result was faster, clearer decision-making and better stakeholder buy-in, more efficient site planning and coordination, and safer, more accurate utility location with centimeter-level positioning—reducing time and cost.
