Scotland Grower Sees Reduced Fuel and Input Costs Using Trimble Solutions

James Oakden runs Dunbog Farm in Newburgh, Scotland, a 260‑hectare mixed arable and contracting business (winter wheat, barley, oilseed rape and grass) with eight employees. Facing fields with multiple break lines, he wanted to improve the efficiency and accuracy of field operations and cut materials costs.

He fitted Trimble Autopilot automated steering, an FmX integrated display and Field‑IQ section control (with RTK EssentialNet positioning) to his John Deere 7530. The system’s ~1‑inch accuracy and automatic section control cut overlap, saving time, fuel (over 5% reduction), seed and chemicals; Oakden mapped all fields, reports the system paid for itself within four years, and notes reduced operator fatigue and clearer operational visibility.
