Case Study: Sandpiper Dredging achieves precise, environmentally sensitive Sorrento Beach replenishment with Trimble HYDROpro

A Trimble Case Study

Preview of the Sandpiper Dredging Case Study

Sandpiper Dredging uses Trimble HYDROpro to Help Replenish Sorrento Beach in Australia

Sandpiper Dredging, an experienced Australian contractor that builds its own precision dredgers, was engaged by the Mornington Peninsula Shire and the Department of Environment and Primary Industries to replenish sand at popular Sorrento Beach after shifting sands left the foreshore depleted. The contract required strict dredge-ground limits and a minimum Australian Height Datum (AHD) for excavation to minimize environmental impact.

Sandpiper partnered with SITECH to equip the dredge with a Trimble SPS461 GPS/heading receiver, an inclinometer and Trimble HYDROpro software, using CORS corrections and AUSGeoid09 to display real‑time AHD positions. HYDROpro logged seabed levels and cutter-head heights, kept the operation within the permitted zone to prevent over‑dredging, simplified operator control, and produced as‑built data for the client, enabling an accurate, efficient and environmentally sensitive beach replenishment.
