San Francisco Public Utilities Commission - Customer Case Study

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, the third-largest municipal utility in California, needed a better way to monitor its extensive wastewater system and meet demands for regulatory compliance, model calibration, repair prioritization, and real-time operational support. Working with Trimble, SFPUC used Telog IoT wireless data recorders and Telog Enterprise software to collect and manage environmental data from the field.

Trimble implemented a network of more than 120 wireless recorders connected to sensors across rain gauges, sewer discharge, flow, pressure, and water-quality points. The solution delivered near real-time data, alarms, and integration with existing systems, helping SFPUC improve operational decision-making, prioritize repairs, support calibrated models, and increase forensic analysis capabilities, while also lowering total cost of ownership compared with traditional SCADA systems.
