A Trimble Case Study
The Eurometropole of Metz needed a rapid, highly accurate topographical survey of the 400-meter tunnel under its historic railway station so it could create a 3D model for future repairs, all within a 48-hour traffic closure. It worked with surveyor firm A.L.I.D.A.D.E.S., which used Trimble equipment and Trimble Business Center to meet the challenge of limited control points and demanding underground conditions.
Trimble helped A.L.I.D.A.D.E.S. capture and process the tunnel data using two Trimble SX10 scanning total stations, a Trimble X7 scanner, and Trimble Business Center to combine the point clouds into a dense georeferenced model. The project produced 11 SX10 setups and 130 X7 scans with a traverse closure of about 2.5 mm, resulting in a dense point cloud and complete 2D topographic plan that will feed the Eurometropole database for future repair planning.
