A Trimble Case Study
Central Coast Aerial Mapping (CCAM), a long-established photogrammetry firm in California, was hired to produce foundational 3D maps for the 580-home San Luis Ranch development in San Luis Obispo County. The project required two high-precision topographic maps (441 acres and a 140-acre grading area) with 0.1 ft vertical accuracy, 1‑ft contours and planimetric features, plus two orthomosaics—delivered faster and cheaper than traditional land surveying methods.
CCAM set nine ground control points, captured 23 aerial photos at 3 cm GSD, and processed the data with Trimble Inpho Suite (MATCH-AT for automated triangulation, MATCH-T for dense 3D point generation, and OrthoVista for orthomosaic stitching). Triangulation took 20 minutes and final maps and orthomosaics were delivered two weeks after data acquisition, yielding highly accurate, feature-rich deliverables on schedule and significantly reducing time and cost compared with conventional surveying.
