Norex Civil Contractors - Customer Case Study

Norex Civil Contractors, led by president Corey Reutlinger in Abbotsford, BC, was contracted to do site prep for two full-size Olympic ice rinks at the University of British Columbia. The crew faced extremely hard glacial till and strict Pacific-coast seismic codes that required much deeper, broader and interconnected footings—making excavation accuracy and speed critical to meet tight Olympic-era deadlines.

Norex deployed Trimble GCS900 3D GPS machine control on its excavators, enabling precise, stakeless digging and real-time bucket positioning. The technology produced straight, vertical cuts with fewer errors and less supervision, moved about 40,000 m3 of material, cut excavation time to less than half of conventional methods and put the project roughly a month ahead—allowing Norex to bid on and complete more work while meeting the Olympic schedule.
