Mobile Mapping Vehicle Paves the Way for the Future Launch of Autonomous Cities

Mobiltech, a Seoul-based AI geospatial startup founded in 2017, created Replica City—a digital twin of the densely populated Gangnam district—to enable smart city planning and autonomous driving services. To capture rapidly changing urban conditions they built a custom mobile mapping services (MMS) vehicle but faced significant challenges synchronizing and calibrating GPS, LiDAR and camera sensors and handling massive data acquisition, processing and matching to achieve precise maps.

To solve this, Mobiltech integrated GNSS/INS‑equipped MMS vehicles with Trimble Applanix systems (LV420/LV220/LV210/LV125/APX15) and used Pospac post‑processing to refine multi‑sensor data. The result is continuous, centimeter‑level 3D city mapping delivered in real time, enabling accurate urban planning, infrastructure management and the deployment of autonomous shuttles, delivery robots and other smart‑city services.
