MMSD Pursues Ambitious Green Infrastructure Goals

The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) provides water reclamation and flood management for 1.1 million residents across 28 communities and has set a target to capture the first half‑inch of rainfall—about 740 million gallons per storm—by 2035. Achieving this requires deploying diverse green infrastructure (GI), replacing aging sewer systems, and coordinating dozens of small contracts and outreach programs, which created complex project‑management challenges.

MMSD implemented e‑Builder as a centralized hub for communications, document management, and project oversight, enabling granular tracking of both large capital efforts and many small contracts with controlled vendor access. Using e‑Builder to manage 13 GI projects (and partnerships like Corvias and community outreach), MMSD had captured 32.2 million gallons by the end of 2020 and continues to streamline delivery as it advances toward the 2035 goal.
