A Trimble Case Study
Maritime Constructions Pty Ltd was selected to deliver the Onslow Marine Support Base channel dredging project in remote Onslow, Western Australia — a multi‑million‑dollar program to create a 55 m shipping channel, deep‑water port and upgraded breakwater that required dredging and reclamation of nearly one million cubic metres of seabed material. The team faced typical marine challenges: an unseen seabed, the need for tight accuracy to avoid costly under‑ or over‑dredging, strict environmental limits, and operating in a very remote location.
Maritime Constructions partnered with UPG to deploy a Trimble precision 3D guided solution — Trimble Marine Construction (TMC) software with an MPS865 heading receiver, Cutter Suction Dredge CAN sensor kit and spud linear sensor, supported by an RTK base (SPS855, TDL450H radio, Zephyr 3) and survey kit (TSC7, SPS986, Sonarmite BTX). UPG commissioned the system and trained crews; the result was efficient, design‑accurate dredging with minimal rework, reliable daily progress and volume reporting, successful completion of ~1 million m3 of dredging, and plans to expand Trimble use.
