Liddell Coal - Customer Case Study

Liddell Coal, a joint venture of Xstrata Coal and Mitsui Matsushima Australia, engaged LOADRITE to address payload accuracy on six excavators (one face shovel and five backhoes). Their existing haul truck scales only provided a retrospective weight once the truck moved away, causing over- or under-loading that couldn’t be corrected at the face, creating speed restrictions, truck bunching and longer cycle times.

LOADRITE installed X2650 onboard scales to give operators real-time, bucket-by-bucket payload data so each truck is loaded to its optimum weight. The system (3% margin of error vs ~5% for truck scales) improved loading accuracy, reduced turnaround and haulage costs, lowered wear on trucks, avoided forced dumps and speed restrictions, and was fitted with no change to operator routine and minimal disruption during scheduled maintenance.
